Program for Reception Honoring Visit of Pope John Paul II

This is the front cover of the program distributed to guests on the occasion of Pope John Paul II's visit to the White House on October 6, 1979, during the Jimmy Carter administration. It was the first time a current pope had visited the White House. This program describes the entertainment held during a reception on the South Lawn in honor of the pope's visit, including a performance by the National Symphony Orchestra and soprano Leontyne Price. As executive chef from 1966-1987, Haller oversaw the menus for many formal occasions at the White House.
